CONCEPT
The design for the home in Colorado will be based on the concept of a telescope. Its ability to resolve small details through such a simplistic looking object will inspire the space by mixing both complex yet simple and functional features; industrial yet modern. Its
linearity will be expressed throughout the space.
The materials will combine both the hardness of metals and stones as well as the more natural and softer materials. This will emulate two different perspectives: the outside structure as well as what can be observed through it, nature. Following this idea, both straight and curvy lines will be used referring to the circular yet linearity of the telescope. Furthermore, the design will have different “dimensions”. Changing in levels will be emphasized by different ceilings and furniture heights. The new residents will be able to see beyond spaces beyond each room, playing with transparency as well as using variety of openings. This will create connection and fluidity throughout the home giving a sense of tranquility. The playful aspect of the telescope will be represented in the overall design using material and level transitions. A darker yet neutral color palette will be used to give that sense of serenity. Finally, the space will feel grounded by emphasizing versatility as well as contrast between materials.
The final design will be aesthetically pleasing, comforting, and functional; making it effortless for the couple to age in the home. The modernity and futuristic feel of the telescope will be balanced with simplicity and diversity.
